In a blues mood… by Melody Bober

Posted on

Your piano recital song was “In a Blues Mood.” If I had to guess, I’m guessing your 4th recital? I wish I knew… I guess I could go back and look). I think your first recital was “Deck the Halls” at Christmas time 18 months ago – again I’m not sure about that.

What I DO know, is that you turned an AWESOME corner while working on “In a Blues Mood.” All of a sudden, the piano was yours. It was not something I had to make you practice (except, of course, for scales). You sat and practiced this song at all hours of the day. When it was time to play it for Ms. M for the first time, you could NOT wait… you played it beautifully (not perfectly, but that didn’t matter), and you were SO PROUD of yourself… smiling like I’ve never seen you smile.

Ms. M smiled and had you play it again. She did not even need to praise you because it was clear you already owned how far you’d come in ways that no one outside of you could give you. What an amazing treat to watch!!

That day, Ms. M offered a challenge to you to play the song more jazzed up, and you took it. Yesterday, at the recital, you played the song perfectly. With so much musicality.

Rock Star.
Love you – Mama

IMG_8592Hey there Peanut –

One highlight – perhaps the biggest – is that you turned double digits!! 10. Ten. Wow.

We had a 10-year old birthday party that was so much fun!! A red carpet premiere!! Highlights were shopping for your gown and shoes at a thrift store, listening to your friends sing all the words to Uptown Funk in the hot tub, and watching Dan run the concession stand for all of you on his crutches. 🙂 The cupcakes were yummy, the movie (A Night at the Museum #2) was awesome, and the night was totally fun.

And then you had an outstanding well visit to celebrate how great your growing and becoming!! Here are some fun pics from both!!

Celebrating birthdays and mama’s day in Seattle

Posted on

You and I joined Oma in Chicago and traveled together to Seattle to celebrate Amy and Lizzy’s birthdays as well as Mother’s Day together. (I served on the committee for a doctoral student at UW, so we went also so I could be at her defense.)

We had such a GREAT time!! Oma and Auntie Amy played LOTS of Scrabble – sometimes together on Oma’s iPad. You and Lizzy were inseparable – taking care of the horses, swimming (and dancing) in/by their pool, and playing mine craft. We cheered Lizzy on at synchronized swimming and drama read-aloud at Barnes and Noble. I ran the hills near their house multiple mornings, and we went out to eat to celebrate the birthdays. 🙂

A cute Frankenstein…

Posted on

I know what I want to be for Halloween, Mama.

What Sweetie?

A cute Frankenstein.

Huh. Alright.

I call Daddy, “You taking care of Halloween costume?”
Daddy: “Yes, I got it.”
Me: “You know that she wants to be a cute Frankenstein.”
Daddy: “Yes, she told me.”
Me: “So you got this?”
Daddy: “Yes, I got it….”
Daddy: “Do you have any ideas?”
I chuckle. Cause it seems very challenging to me! So I research it.

I find this picture and get the idea that maybe you can work with Ms. Christina to sew it yourself – so I did, and you did. I was very proud of you!!

What did you do with your day off?

Way back in September, you had a day off of school… We had such an awesome day together. You made a plan and carefully checked off all the items. One minor crash midway through the day, which was quickly cured with a hot dog from a street vendor. 🙂
