It’s Christmas Time!

Posted on

Hey there Peanut –

Wanted to write you Monday, but alas, it’s already Wednesday. (I had my last class for the semester last night, so I have been swamped with grading and such. ) It’s CHRISTMAS TIME at the TATEMANN’s!!

Sunday, we went together to get our tree from the local boy scout troups. Daddy picked out a very big one!! It’s very pretty! And our neighbor Collin down the street (a 10 year old) was the boy scout who took VERY good care of us! We haven’t decorated it yet, but because of it’s size and wonderful smell, it already makes our house look like Christmas! (I was imagining getting a Charlie Brown tree this year for simplicity’s sake, but maybe next year.)

THEN Monday morning we kept you home from daycare to decorate Christmas cookies!!

You were so intrigued by the consistency of the frosting! And boy did you make a mess! Thank you for helping us make these cookies for so many people we care about! You are wonderful!

Can’t wait to put the lights on the tree! When you and I go for walks in the neighborhood, you become entranced by the Christmas lights on everyone’s house! It’s spectacular to watch you!

We’re headed to the doctors for your 9-month visit today. It was supposed to be Friday so Daddy could come, but you weren’t feeling very well yesterday and you keep pulling on your ears, so we want to make sure you don’t have an infection…

Love you!

We got the official word… You’re on the move!

Today, when we picked you up from daycare, B said, “She crawled today! From here all the way to here!” I can hardly believe it! You are growing up so fast!

This was the rest of the report from today:

Maya had a great day. She enjoyed singing songs at circle time. She played in the muscle room, and she loved it! She ate really good today at all her meals. And she took a really long nap – that muscle room got her tired.

This adventure of life with you is so much fun!
We love you!

You are so close…

You are SO close to crawling AND walking, Little Miss Maya! Almost every daycare report talks about how you are just dying to get moving! Daddy saw you take a couple REAL crawling “steps” on Sunday! You certainly can move yourself in any direction you want pretty quickly – soon you’ll have a more efficient way to get to those toys!

When I picked you up from daycare 2 days ago (Monday), first you gave me the BIIIIIGEST smile and giggle! I giggled right back! And when I picked you up, you gave me the HUGGGGEST hug burying your face in my chest and squeezing with both arms and hands! That was the most wonderful moment EVER!

I love you Peanut! I bet I’ll be writing again within the week to say that you’re officially on the move!

Been meaning to write…

Hi Peanut –

I’ve been meaning to write you lately. I have so much to share with you…

A couple days ago was your first day at your new daycare. It’s close enough that we can walk there in the morning and walk home in the afternoon. It was not the best first day, but it hasn’t gotten much better since. The two infant teachers M & O work so well together and really seem to love what they do. O is even fluent in Spanish, and she plans to speak to both you and one of your classmates in Spanish. You have about 5 other classmates. I have only met three of so far, Levi, Griffin and a little girl named April. So far you are the youngest of the clan.

Here was today’s report from M, the infant instructor:

“What a wonderful day! Maya had so much fun! She loved playing w/ the kids and toys and watching them move all around the room – though sometimes she would get frustrated and want to crawl after them – Soon! She gets so excited at lunch time to sit at the table and eat with the gang – full of smiles!”

How great is that!?!? And then, when your Daddy & I picked you up, you gave us the BIGGEST smiles and giggles! You were so excited to see both of us, and we were so excited to see you! Your laughter is totally heart melting!
stroller
This is you in the backseat of a 4-person stroller. What a trip!

You are ALMOST crawling! You are up on your toes and hands, and you lunge forward to get at something. You can pull yourself to standing by holding on to something or someone. You are a VERY stable sitter now. And, just as always, you are so curious and studious. You love to study new and interesting things. It’s so fun to watch you!

More soon… We love you!

Happy Thanksgiving~

Your first!

I tried to write to you on Thanksgiving day, but for some reason my password wouldn’t work to get on the blog. We all had a fantastic Thanksgiving at Grandma & Grandpa Luehmann’s house in Minnesota. Everyone came – Aunt Amy, Uncle Hakon & your cousin Elisabeth from Seattle as well as Uncle Mark and Aunt Bi from Michigan. (They just moved back to Jackson MI – we haven’t even seen their new house yet – but I hear it’s spectacular! It has a pond and everything!)

You didn’t sleep so well again the night before Thanksgiving – I think your ears were still hurting you. A week ago you were diagnosed with a double ear infection. That along with adjusting to a different bed, different people and a different time zone could challenge even the best of sleepers. Anyway, because we were all a bit sleepy, and you weren’t in the best mood. we decided to skip church. We all congregated instead at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. Great Grandma Friedrich came over in the morning and spent the day with us.

At dinner (at noon), Grandpa asked me to start a special Thanksgiving prayer, and the first thing that popped into my head was you and your Daddy. I know I tell you this every time I write, but I am so thankful for you Little Peanut. Your arrival in my life has made every aspect of it better. The things I treasured before, I treasure even more now; the things I found beautiful before are even more stunning; the things I found disappointing before, I now realize aren’t very important. I want to be a better me for you. You do that, you know. Your beautiful presence inspires people to be happier and just better people. God does wonderful work through you my little angel.

We ate a typical American Thanksgiving dinner – turkey, cranberries, squash, potatoes, corn, fruit, stuffing, bread and apple pie. You sampled many of these dishes in addition to your own baby food entres of “Turkey Vegetable Dinner” and some fruit. You really enjoyed the apple pie! 🙂 A girl after my own heart!

After dinner, we opened Christmas presents. You got many fun gifts from different members of the family. Highlights included a cell phone with a promise to call more often from Uncle Mark & Aunt Bi; a beautiful handmade quilt made of the fabric from your baptism stoll from Aunt Amy and her family, and a dressy bessy type doll that is a female astronaut! How cool is that?!?! They also showered you with wonderful books and toys. Auntie Amy also bought you a cute outfit when we found out our flight was cancelled the next day, and you would need something to wear.

Each of these family members, Great Grandma included, was thrilled to hold you and play with you. Your cousin Elisabeth and you had a very special bond. She is 3.5 years old now (you are 8 months old). You made each other smile and giggle. When you cried, Elisabeth came over and sang a little song to you to cheer you up. Grandma gave you a bath together both Thursday night and Friday night. Elisabeth was happy to share her toys and play with you in the water. When she left, she gave you a big hug, a kiss, and a high five on your shoulder (because she realized you couldn’t high five yet.) I think you both really enjoy being each other’s cousin!

The grown-ups played cards the rest of the day. We all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

The next day we all got family pictures taken at Target in Rochester. Then you, Daddy & I were supposed to fly back to Rochester. Surprisingly, our flight was cancelled. We were standing in line to get our flight rebooked when Grandma appeared out of nowhere and swept you up into her arms. She was THRILLED that she got another day with you. Not long after that (a minute or less), Mark, Bi, Amy, Hakon, Grandpa and Elisabeth arrived and enthusastically greeted us! I, for one, felt very loved. After booking the flight for the next day, Saturday, we headed back to Grandma & Grandpa’s in Austin.

Saturday we joined in a Luehmann family gathering and my Uncle Howie and Aunt Vicki’s house in Lewiston. They got to see you again along with their kids Kayla and Brandon, and you got to meet my Uncle Lyle & Aunt Betty and Uncle Al & Aunt Laurie.

Whew… I’m tired just writing all of this.

Bottom line – we’re so thankful for you Peanut. And we all have so much to be grateful for! God certainly blesses us SO RICHLY!

Love you!

8 months already~

Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday dear Peanut! Happy Birthday to you!
8 months
8 months old… The sweater MJ made for you

You are wearing clothes that are closer to 12 months than 6 months, but your tiny feet are still smaller than 6 months.
You are still studying EVERYTHING, attending to every tiny detail.
You are happiest when you have something new to look at, manipulate and chew on.
You giggle a LOT with your Daddy.
You love to be held by your Mommy.
You and I love our bathtime together… we just got new toys, and that makes it even more fun. (You aren’t so happy when bathtime ends.)
You are riding in a big girl car seat, still facing backwards for safety. I think you can see better out the windows.
You are sleeping very well… mostly 12 hours at a shot… sometimes wanting a snack once in the middle of the night. You’ve been sleeping in your crib for at least 3 months or so now.
You still LOVE going for walks outside… even now that the weather is starting to turn cold.
You still melt EVERYONE’S hearts with your sweet smile.
You’re not crawling yet, but you sure want to. I don’t think it will be long.
Still no teeth… I LOVE your precious toothless grin!
You’re eating a little of almost everything. No meat and not much dairy, but you are game to gnaw on most everything else. You love to make a big mess when you eat which is a big hit with Macy & Jake because they get to eat the crumbs you drop.

Next week is Thanksgiving, and we’ll be in Minnesota! You’ll get to see Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Amy, Uncle Hakon, cousin Elisabeth, Uncle Mark AND Aunt Bianca!! How awesome is that?!?! I can’t wait!!

We love you Peanut. We are so honored to be your Parents.
Cheering you on as you grow…

Halloween Take 2

Posted on

Our play group met in costume yesterday (11/11) because we had a hard time getting together at the right time. You and your friends all dressed up to both celebrate Halloween together as well as Casey’s and Berkeley’s birthdays. Berkeley (the dragon) was having a bit of a rough day, and we missed Walter who couldn’t make it, but all in all, we had a great time!

fall frolicking

Today was a BEAUTIFUL fall Saturday… 60 degrees and sunny! I came home from working with my graduate students, and you were outside with Daddy raking leaves. You and Daddy also stopped by to see me at the beginning of the day and again at lunch. You melt my heart EVERY time I get to see you.

After I arrived home, we frolicked in the leaves and went for a family walk. What a wonderful time!

We love you Peanut!

You made my day

Guess what happened when I walked in the door from work tonight?!?! You were in your doorway jumper. You got so excited. You giggled and giggled out loud, jumping up and down, flailing your little arms, smiling as big as your little face. My heart totally melted. I am pretty sure NO ONE has EVER been so excited to see me before.

Thank you for giving me that moment to treasure for the rest of my life…

I love you!
